If you are having troubles connecting to the FTP server:

  • Firstly confirm that you are connected to the internet by checking the status of your internet connection. (Can you browse the web?)
  • Disable PASV mode in your FTP client.
  • Ensure that your FTP client has the correct ftp details. The hostname will be ftp.YOURDOMAIN.COM.AU The username and password will be the same as your cPanel.
  • If possible disable any firewall that may be running while you attempt to connect.
  • If you are trying to connect from a pc on an internal network, try connecting from your gateway pc.

If you still can't connect, and you are running Windows, you can try the basic ftp client supplied with Windows:

  • Go to Start -> Run
  • If you are running Win98/ME please type command
  • If you are running Win2000/XP please type cmd
  • Type: ftp ftp.yourdomain.com.au

You should see something like the following:

Connected to ftp.yourdomain.com.au.
220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 11:55. Server port: 21.
220-This is a private system - No anonymous login
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
User (ftp.yourdomain.com.au:(none):
